NFL Considering Big Potential Changes Involving Cowboys?

At 3-6 with $240 million quarterback Dak Prescott sidelined for the remainder of the 2024 season, the Dallas Cowboys have bigger problems than the sun glare at AT&T Stadium.

Losers of four straight, the road ahead doesn't offer much hope for revival, with upcoming games against the Houston Texans (6-4), Washington Commanders (7-3) and New York Giants (2-8).

While those three games are locked in leading up to Thanksgiving, Front Office Sports dove into the possibility of the NFL making some big scheduling changes involving the Cowboys, which the outlet described as a potential "major turn."

"As the team has its worst season in nearly a decade and TV executives see numbers decline, Jerry Jones’ worst nightmare may become a reality: the irrelevance that accompanies being flexed out of high-profile broadcast spots," FOS' Eric Fisher and David Rumsey wrote.

At present, Dallas is set to play the Cincinnati Bengals on "Monday Night Football" in Week 14, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 16 and the Philadelphia Eagles in Fox's prime 4:25 p.m. ET slot in Week 17.

According to FOS, "All three of those games conceivably stand at risk for movement by the NFL in the league’s flex scheduling rules—particularly given that Cincinnati and Tampa Bay also have losing records, and Philadelphia could have a postseason slot locked up by then."

The NFL must consult with the respective broadcast network on any decision. However, the league maintains the right to flex Cowboys-Bengals provided it does so by Nov. 27, and Cowboys-Bucs and Cowboys-Eagles by Dec. 16 and Dec. 23, respectively.
