NFL insider puts a soft deadline on when he expects T.J. Watt to sign a new contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers this summer

The Pittsburgh Steelers always have some sort of drama going on. If it wasn't a disgruntled George Pickens this offseason, it was the Aaron Rodgers saga before he signed.

NFL Analyst Breaks Down T.J. Watt's Contract Issue With Steelers

Now, the attention and spotlight have turned to T.J. Watt ever since he  skipped mandatory minicamp a couple of weeks ago.

Luckily for those who just want to see Steelers football at it's best, the soap opera theatrics should be coming to an end fairly soon...

Tom Pelissero expects T.J. Watt to sign a contract extension just before training camp starts

“It seems there’s nothing done at this point," said Pelissero. "But it seems like, given where these teams are, that they’re going to find a way to do something prior to the start of training camp. I’m not holding my breath for that to get done much before; they’re one of the last teams to report. They report on July 23rd to Latrobe. I’m not holding my breath for that to get done substantially before that.”

Well, July 23rd is a little over three weeks away. The Steelers have always set a deadline on contract extensions, and that is the eve of the start of the season. That would be nearly another six weeks from the start of training camp. If it get's to that point and Watt still hasn't signed, then it might not be time to worry.

For now, I'm sure he's training everyday, enjoying life as a Dad for the first time, and keeping everything in perspective. It's easy to forget that the Steelers went through this exact scenario in 2021 when Watt was seeking an extension off his rookie deal and eventually put an end to his strike by signing during camp.

Perhaps the Steelers are in store for a similar chain of events four years later.
