The Pittsburgh Steelers have been connected to future Hall of Fame quarterback all offseason long. While no deal has materialized officially between the two parties, it is still widely expected that Rodgers will be the starting quarterback for the Steelers in 2025.
Many believe Pittsburgh gave a strong sign that Rodgers has told them he plans to sign by not drafting a quarterback until the sixth round of the 2025 NFL draft when they selected Will Howard.
Following the draft, team owner Art Rooney II spoke out about the 41-year-old quarterback and revealed some major details about his current status.
“He does want to come here,” Rooney said. "So I do think we may get word soon.”
Now, NFL insider Mike Florio has revealed an update about when Rodgers might choose to officially sign with the Steelers.
“If you’re Rodgers, don’t you just at this point wait until after the schedule is out?” he said. “Because it’s not like the Steelers are gonna get fewer primetime games than what they’d otherwise get.”
Rodgers signing with Pittsburgh could be the piece that powers the team to serious Super Bowl contention. On the outside looking in, the roster looks strong outside of the quarterback position.
During the 2024 NFL season with the New York Jets, Rodgers proved that he can still play at a high level. He completed 63% of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Playing with the Steelers would give the legendary quarterback a lethal duo of DK Metcalf and George Pickens to throw to. That alone would have to be of interest to him.
James Palmer, another NFL insider, has also reported that things are looking good for Rodgers to sign with Pittsburgh.
“I know that (Rodgers) has stayed in relatively constant contact with Mike Tomlin,” Palmer said. “So, I do believe there’s enough things pointing that Aaron Rodgers would be the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.”
Only time will tell, but if Florio is right, fans will have to wait for a bit longer before finding out for sure what Rodgers will choose to do.
