Now that the season is over for the Cleveland Browns, the No. 1 offseason goal has to be to find a quarterback for the 2025 season.
Cleveland is going to have options and that includes the draft, free agency, and the trade market. Deshaun Watson has shown through three seasons with the team that he is not the quarterback of the future and the Browns have to pivot.
The Browns own the No. 2 selection in the upcoming draft in April and one NFL insider says that is where the Browns are going to pounce on a quarterback.
“They’re going quarterback,” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini said on “The Dan Le Batard Show” recently. “They see what we see. It’s just not a mystery. This is not like they’re psyched about Deshaun Watson’s ability, leadership, and play. They know this isn’t great, but they also have no way out of this.”
Watson played in seven games in 2024 before he suffered an Achilles injury that ended his season early for a second year straight. General manager Andrew Berry revealed on Monday that Watson has suffered a setback with the recovery of that injury.
With the No. 2 pick, the Browns are set to have the chance to select one of the top two quarterbacks. The Tennessee Titans are likely to take a quarterback with the first pick in the draft. Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders are thought to be the top two quarterbacks in the draft.
“They’ve gotta move forward here and find the answer because I do think the fanbase will forgive. If they hit on a quarterback and this young guy comes out and says beats Deshaun in camp and the Browns head to the playoffs next year with a rookie quarterback … I think there will be some forgiveness.”
A lot will happen between now and the draft. The rumors will be all over the place and trends will change with what the Browns are going to do at quarterback. Free agency in March will give us a good idea of what the Browns are going to do. One thing is for sure, the Browns have to find out the most important position or they will be cleaning house by the end of next season.
