NFL insider suggests Houston Texans have done some ‘curious’ during free agency, ‘you don’t typically see that…’

The Houston Texans have enjoyed a quiet free agency period with incoming so far restricted to depth players.

Houston Texans: How depth chart looks after draft

There hasn’t been any big splash or statement to sign a big player and they seem content with their current roster heading into the NFL Draft.

Tuesday afternoon was a head-turner for Texans fans though, as they announced a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles which will see CJ Gardner Johnson play for them in 2025.

The safety is an excellent player and the sort of guy that players want to have on their side of the ball only. He will add a lot to their defense.

The Houston Texans proved some wrong in the NFL Playoffs and they will be looking to do the same next year.

For the last two seasons, they have been AFC South champions and will want to make it a third for the first time in their history in 2025.

Jonathan Jones says Houston Texans’ offensive live decisions have been ‘curious’

After cutting Shaq Mason and trading both Laremy Tunsil and Kenyon Green, the Texans will now enter 2025 missing 60% of their starting offensive line from the season prior.

They’re going to need to address their line with at least two of their draft picks now as they look to rebuild their trenches.

Jonathan Jones believes that it doesn’t make too much sense making all of these moves at once and handing themselves a big list to sort.

“The one curious thing for the Houston Texans though, is they continue to let go of offensive,” he said.

“They released Shaq Mason on Monday, they traded Laremy Tunsil for a haul of draft picks from the Washington Commanders and now they’re letting go of Kenyon Green in a trade.

“All of these things probably on their own, make sense. In a vacuum, one can sort of explain a way, any of these moves. This is three of the five starting linemen for the Houston Texans. You don’t typically see that.”

Why the Houston Texans could lose the AFC South title in 2025

The Jacksonville Jaguars are the main team to keep an eye on in the AFC South in 2025. Their new head coach led a top five offense last year.

With the talented Trevor Lawrence and Brian Thomas Jr alongside him primed for an explosive season, they could put up some historic numbers.

Add the possible improvements to their run game and the injection of youth they are about to have, and they could be real contenders for the NFL Playoffs again.

Some questionable decisions over the last few years led them down a tricky path, but they’re starting to turn the ship around with their new staff.

If they can get their act together in year one, the Texans face a true challenge to keep hold of top spot in their division.
