NFL Makes Controversial Decision On Punishment For Hit To Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson sacked Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on the second play of their Week 1 matchup.

Now, Tomlinson will have to pay for it.

According to reporter Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal, the league handed down a significant fine for Tomlinson's hit.

"#Browns DT Dalvin Tomlinson was fined $22,511 for his sack of Dallas #Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, where he landed with his full body weight on the quarterback," Easterling wrote in a post on X.

Tomlinson's fine was the largest doled out by the NFL in Week 1 of the season.

The hit was not flagged in the game, and the fine drew plenty of controversy.

"Tomlinson gets fined for a routine sack but Cowboys LB Campbell doesn't get fined for the hip-drop tackle (there was also no flag on the play btw) that injured Njoku lmao," one fan wrote on X.

"Refs should be fined," added another fan.

"Did I miss something? What was wrong with the hit?" wrote another.

Tomlinson wasn't the only player fined in the game. Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs was also fined $16,883 for an unnecessary roughness penalty.
