The San Francisco 49ers and NFL fans have been patiently waiting for the league to make a decision on a potential punishment for defensive end Nick Bosa, who interrupted a "Sunday Night Football" postgame interview in Week 8 to show off his hat featuring the phrase "Make America Great Again."
After delaying a decision until after the U.S. Presidential Election this past Tuesday, the NFL has made its call on the star pass rusher, according to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero on Saturday.
"The NFL fined #49ers star Nick Bosa $11,255 for violating league policy against displaying personal messages by crashing NBC’s postgame interview Oct. 27 wearing
a MAGA hat, per source," Pelissero wrote on X.
According to the NFL Operations website, the $11,255 penalty is the maximum possible punishment for a first-time offense of Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8 of the NFL rulebook. A second offense for an unapproved personal message on a uniform would elevate to a $16,883 fine.
Notably, the NFL did not initially list Bosa's fine on the operations website, where infractions from the previous week are posted every Saturday. Twenty-four other fines were handed out for Week 9.
While speaking to local media in the 49ers locker room on Wednesday, the four-time Pro Bowler said, "It was well worth it," in response to a question about the potential fine headed his way for displaying the "MAGA" hat.
"I don't think my position about it is going to change," Bosa added in reference to President-elect Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. "Clearly the nation spoke and we got what we got."
