NFL News: Former Saints, Broncos RB Latavius Murray retires after 10-year NFL career

One of the NFL's underrated rushers steps away after 10 years, 6,552 yards, and 59 TD's

Another former New Orleans Saints fan favorite has hung up the cleats. Veteran running back Latavius Murray has retired from the NFL, as he announced on his official Instagram account on Wednesday.

Murray was a sixth-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders, which is where he spent the first four years of his career. He ended up playing for six different teams over his 10-year career. He made one Pro Bowl back in 2015, his best season.

The Florida native spent two full seasons in a Saints uniform and played one game back in 2022. During his first tenure, he had 292 rushes for 1,293 yards and nine touchdowns. He caught the ball 57 times for 411 yards and two more scores. He was a great complement to Alvin Kamara in the New Orleans rushing attack.

While the bruising back was released in Sept. 2021 and opted to join the Baltimore Ravens, Murray ended up coming back to the Saints as a member of the practice squad in 2022. He played in one game against the Minnesota Vikings, and played well. New Orleans sent him back to the practice squad, though, and then he ended up getting swept up by the Denver Broncos (which was surprisingly controversial at the time). He had a pretty nice year despite the late start to compete for a real starting job.

Overall, throughout his career, Murray had 1,560 rushes for 6,552 yards and 59 touchdowns. He added 239 catches for 1,620 yards and those two scores. Despite his limited time, he is ranked No. 22 in Saints history in rushing yards and touchdowns. He was last with the Buffalo Bills in 2023 and did not play in 2024. Good luck to him in whatever comes next.
