President Donald Trump had an interesting take on the NFL “tush push” play made popular by the Philadelphia Eagles amid calls for the league to ban it.
Earlier this week, news emerged that the Green Bay Packers sent the NFL a proposal to ban the tush push play. The play, executed to near-perfection by the Eagles since 2022, consists of two players lining up behind the quarterback and “pushing” them forward.
The play has become practically automatic for the Eagles to the point where some fans, pundits, and, of course, the Packers have called for the NFL to ban it. So, what does the president of the United States have to say about it?
During an interview with The Spectator , President Trump said he wouldn’t ban the tush push play , though he named one part of the game he’d like to see get outlawed.
“I wouldn’t ban it,” Trump told the outlet. “But what I would ban is this horrible kickoff rule, this new kickoff rule that is so bad…so bad.”

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts opened the scoring in the Super Bowl 59 victory over the Chiefs with a “tush push” touchdown. Hurts won MVP honors after throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 72 rushing yards (including the rushing TD).
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Trump said that the Super Bowl 59 champions would get an invitation to visit him at the White House. Perhaps Trump will voice his support for the tush push to the Eagles players and head coach Nick Sirianni.
Nick Sirianni “Insulted” By Calls To Ban The Tush Push
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the Super Bowl-winning head coach admitted that he feels “insulted” by the calls for the tush push to be banned. Sirianni noted that the Eagles have worked tirelessly on the play, and perhaps teams are pushing for it to be outlawed simply because Philly has made it virtually automatic.
If anything else, the Eagles should take it as a compliment. They’re practically unstoppable with this play that other teams want the implementation of a new rule to stop their prolific offense.
