Heading into last season, the Tennessee Titans were expecting Saahdiq Charles to be their starting right guard. However, he decided to retire from the NFL abruptly and it's unclear why.

Charles is only 25 so his retirement was a big surprise at the time. After a year off, the veteran offensive lineman decided to come back to the NFL.

The Titans released him and he was free to sign anywhere. The Dallas Cowboys announced on Wednesday that they have signed Charles to a one-year deal.

Dallas is trying to figure out how to replace legendary guard Zack Martin, who retired this offseason, and Charles could be in the mix to start at guard.

He first came into the NFL as a fourth-round pick of the Washington Commanders. Considering he'd face the Cowboys twice a year for the first four seasons of his career, the team should be familiar to him.

Prior to retiring, Charles played in 35 games and made 18 starts. He's battled injuries throughout his career so perhaps the year away will be good for his body.

At 25, there should still be plenty of time for Charles to grow. No team gets more attention than the Cowboys so if he plays well this season, he could be looking at a much better contract in 2026.
