The NFL season may still be a few months away, but Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is already making headlines off the field.
On Saturday night, Mahomes was honored with a prestigious milestone as he was officially inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame for his legendary career at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas.
Mahomes was joined by several family members for the occasion, including his parents and his wife, Brittany, who is also the mother of his three children.
Then on Sunday morning, Mahomes took to Instagram to make a major announcement—one that quickly sparked strong reactions.
"Whitehouse, Texas is where it all began," Mahomes posted. "It’s an honor to be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame."
He continued, "As a part of this recognition, I’m proud to announce that @adidasfballus and I are signing 15 high schools to Team Mahomes that will represent my Gladiator logo on uniform, starting with Whitehouse High School. This is just the beginning."
The NFL commented, "certified Hall of Famer."
The news also struck reactions from several others:
"Proud of you, Patrick," Chiefs posted.
"Very cool," ESPN analyst Louis Riddick said.
One more fan commented, "Feels like this is overdue!! Congrats."
Mahomes continues to make waves across the football world, but he faces a big season ahead following the team’s bitter end to last year. The Chiefs fell short in Super Bowl LIX, suffering a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles while attempting to make NFL history with a third consecutive Lombardi Trophy.
In that game, Mahomes was sacked a career-high six times, and the Chiefs were outmatched from start to finish. Now, with the season roughly three months away, reports surfaced Saturday that Kansas City is expected to open the 2025 regular season in Brazil with a Week 1 showdown against their division rival, the Los Angeles Chargers.
