There has been a lot of talk about Travis Kelce's future, especially after the Kansas City Chiefs missed out on the opportunity of securing an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat.
At this point, it remains to be seen if the All-Pro tight end has actually already played his final NFL game, with Kelce himself already admitting that he is, indeed, considering retirement.
According to reports, the Chiefs have now given Kelce a deadline to make what will be a major career decision for the 35-year-old. Kelce has reportedly been given until Mar. 14 -- one day before his $11.5 million roster bonus kicks in on Mar. 15 -- to make his choice.
NFL wide receiver legend Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson has chimed in on the rumored deadline in a recent episode of the "Nightcap" podcast with Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe.
When asked if he thought this type of deadline is "normal," Ochocinco made his opinion on the matter clear.
“I don’t know if it’s normal, especially that soon after the Super Bowl," he said. "But I think they wanna know what he’s going to do sooner rather than later so they can look forward to what they’re going to do next. What are the next steps we need to take?
"I would’ve thought they would’ve given someone, especially like Kelce based on what he's done over an extended period of time, they would’ve given him a little more grace, as opposed to rushing him to make a decision.”
Sharpe responded by sharing why he believes the Chiefs are in the right to set a deadline for Kelce. According to the eight-time Pro Bowl tight end, the team needs to know if they will have to replace Kelce before free agency starts in March. The Chiefs "can't let this thing drag out," he said.
Whatever the case might be, Kelce will make his decision in the coming weeks. However, until that time comes, fans will have no choice but to patiently wait on whether or not Kelce will be back on the field in 2025.
