NHL News: Ex-Bruins Forward In The Mix For Team's Head Coach Job

The Boston Bruins are currently in the process of looking for their next full-time head coach. Now, a new name is being connected to the Bruins, and it is somebody their fans know very well.

Der Familie und des großen Traums zuliebe: Marco Sturm bekräftigt Ja zu den USA

According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, former Bruins forward Marco Sturm is among the coaches Boston is currently considering for their vacant position.

"On Bruins head coach search: Add Marco Sturm to the mix," Pagnotta reported on X. "Hearing he's under serious consideration for the position."

Sturm, 46, is currently the head coach of the Los Angeles Kings' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Ontario Reign. The former Bruins forward has been the Reign's bench boss for each of the last three seasons. He was also an assistant coach for the Kings for four seasons before becoming head coach of the Reign. Thus, he has experience and could be ready to make the jump to his first NHL head coaching position.

During his playing career, Sturm was acquired by the Bruins on November 30, 2005, as part of the infamous trade that sent former captain Joe Thornton to the San Jose Sharks. Sturm proved to be a key part of the Bruins' forward group following the move, posting 106 goals, 193 points, and a plus-24 rating in 302 games from 2005-06 to 2009-10.

Seeing the Bruins bring back a former fan favorite like Sturm in a head coaching role would certainly be interesting. It will be intriguing to see if he ends up winning the job from here.

Bruins Legend Zdeno Chara Lands Massive Honor

Boston Bruins legend Zdeno Chara had a truly spectacular NHL career. In 1,680 career NHL games over 24 seasons, the 6-foot-9 defenseman had 209 goals, 471 assists, 680 points, and a plus-301 rating. He was also a six-time All-Star, won the Norris Trophy in 2009, and, of course, lifted the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011.

Now, Chara has been rewarded with a massive honor for his incredible playing career. The longtime Bruins captain is one of six players who have been named to the NHL's Quarter-Century Team.

In addition to Chara, Jarome Iginla, Nicklas Lidstrom, Joe Sakic, Teemu Selanne, and fellow former Bruins captain Joe Thornton have been named to the NHL Quarter-Century team for players who debuted before 2000.

This is some elite company for Chara to be a part of, but when looking at how outstanding of a career he had, it is entirely understandable. He was the NHL's top shutdown defenseman for several years and was a significant reason for the Bruins' immense success during his time with the organization.
