NHL agent Dan Milstein has reportedly shut down a rumor that the Vancouver Canucks are interested in a reunion with Nikita Zadorov.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman mused that the Canucks could seek a reunion with Zadorov.
After all, the team's top six is looking rather shaky at the moment. Their bottom pair of Noah Juulsen and Erik Brannstrom is particularly troubling.
That being said, it seems like this was more of a shot in the dark than actual insider information coming from Friedman.
'Weird idea that may only make sense to me: Nikita Zadorov back to Vancouver. No idea if even possible, or if anyone would want it, but he was a good fit and the Canucks miss him.'
Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal has come out today with a response to Friedman's proposition.
While it is true that the team does miss Zadorov, it seems as though they do not have any plans to acquire him.
In fact, Dhaliwal has been in communication with Zadorov's agent, Dan Milstein, who has confirmed that he has heard nothing from the Canucks in regards to a possible trade.
If the Canucks were to trade for Zadorov, it would be a very unusual and complicated deal.
The 29-year-old signed a six-year deal with the Bruins this summer, worth 36 million dollars.
The Canucks currently have less than a million dollars in cap room so if a deal did happen, money would have to be going the other way and there would have to be retention from the Bruins.
This would make it a very expensive deal for Vancouver, so it is not surprising that they are not really considering it at this point.
Of course, this does not mean that things cannot change. After all, the Bruins season has been a disaster.
If things continue in this direction, the organization may very well be forced into a rebuild. If that is the case, perhaps a player like Zadorov could be moved, if not this summer, than in the coming years. When that time comes, Vancouver may very well be in on it.
