The San Francisco 49ers capped off a disappointing season with a 47-24 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in The Grand Canyon State on Saturday, following up a close fought loss to the Lions with a blowout loss at the hands of a non-playoff team.
The 49ers' defense let them down as they gave up 242 yards and four touchdowns through the air to Cardinals star Kyler Murray and his offensive teammates.
Afterwards one of the 49ers' defensive stars, Nick Bosa, was asked if he thinks defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen is the right person to be the team's defensive coordinator going forward.
"I think he's a good coach, but it's not my decision," the five-time Pro Bowler Bosa said.
The 49ers gave up 29, 40 and 47 points over the course of their final three games of the season to the Dolphins, Lions, and Cardinals, respectively, shining the spotlight on Sorensen, who served as the team's defensive coordinator for the first time this season in his third season with the 49ers.
The 49ers have given up an average of 25.6 points per game this season, tied for fourth worst in the NFL, heading into a playoffs season that won't include coach Kyle Shanahan's team for the first time since 2020.
Last week, Shanahan appeared to give Sorensen a vote of confidence while also sharing in the disappointment of the team's results.
"I think Nick has done a good job as a coach," Shanahan said. "No one's happy with our results by any means. I think he's been thrown in a number of situations that I think will make him better going forward."
