America's Team who?
San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa is certainly never afraid to voice his opinion. He is also never afraid to take a shot at San Francisco's oldest rival in the Dallas Cowboys, which is exactly what he did on July 4.
Bosa took to social media and posted a picture of him sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the team's contentious game against Dallas last October when the 49ers emerged victorious 30-24. The caption to the post was just an emoji of the American flag.
It was a nice little shot at "America's Team" as the Cowboys have so humbly called themselves for decades. One cannot help but think of Joe Montana's retort to Ed "Too Tall" Jones of the Cowboys when Montana completed the infamous pass to Dwight Clark in the 1982 NFC Championship game.
Jones said to Montana, "You just beat America's Team," to which Montana replied, "Well you can sit at home with the rest of America and watch the Super Bowl."
Dallas and San Francisco have had such a storied rivalry over the decades. While it may never reach the intensity and hatred of the 1990s when the two teams were the best in the NFL, it is clear from Bosa's post that the rivalry is alive and well.
49ers tight end George Kittle infamously wore a NSFW t-shirt deriding the city of Dallas back in 2023. While he was slapped with a fine, it certainly seemed worth it just to tick off the Cowboys and their fans.
In recent years the rivalry has picked up a bit more with the 49ers and Cowboys facing off in the playoffs in consecutive seasons. San Francisco got the best of Dallas in both of those games so the animosity between both sides may be ratcheted up.
The Niners and Cowboys will not play each other in the 2025 regular season, but there is always a chance they could meet in the playoffs. Both teams are trying to rebound from disappointing 2024 campaigns in which they both missed the playoffs.
It may be the boring part of the NFL offseason where not much is happening, but at least Bosa is stirring the pot a little bit with this jab at the Cowboys as football fans eagerly await the start of the 2025 season.
