The Cleveland Browns aren't making any promises to Nick Chubb.
But Chubb is making a promise to his critics.
There have been rumors that might be providing some emotional hope to Cleveland Browns fans who don't want to see the talented tough-guy running back leave town.
Chubb has slipped through the cracks of free agency ... as we are seeing the unfortunate truth of what the NFL presently thinks of him.
Chubb of course burst onto the league scene as a dynamic weapon and kept on rolling through his first five seasons. Following a 996-yard campaign in his rookie season after he was drafted No. 35 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, he went over 1,000 in each of the next four campaigns.
But some awful injury misfortune brought to a halt a fantastic run. The Browns lost Chubb two games into the 2023 season after a nasty leg injury, and then a broken foot took away half of his 2024.
Now a free agent, Chubb seeks a fresh start.
Could he be "fresh'' maybe in Cleveland?
Based on Chubb's own words, "fresh'' is coming ... somewhere.
"They’ve already wrote my ending when I’m just getting started," Chubb wrote in a post on Monday.
The Browns might be open to re-signing him at some point ... but we bet they'll also draft a running back in this class to pair with Jerome Ford.
There are rumors that this thing might be salvaged with a one-year deal eventually being offered to Chubb, 29, along with an invitation to stay with Cleveland. ... all with the hope that he rebounds from having finished 2024 with 332 rushing yards on 102 carries and three touchdowns.
Him averaging just 3.3 yards per attempt is the lowest mark of his career ... and in terms of his getting anything more than a cheap prove-it deal, it's not very promising.
But Nick is making a promise of his own.
