The Philadelphia Eagles have created a huge controversy going into this offseason. They have taken the typical “QB sneak” and have made it more of a force with them creating the “Tush Push” that has helped them convert on fourth-down as well as get into the endzone.
The Eagles have established themselves as one of the most physical football teams in the NFL because of the size of aggressiveness they have on the offensive line, as well as having Jalen Hurts behind center who is very strong himself.
However, there is one specific team that has filed for the infamous tush push to be banned moving forward. The Green Bay Packers, who saw the Eagles twice last year were revealed as the team that is looking to make life more difficult for the Eagles. Maybe if Green Bay knew how to stop it, we wouldn’t be having this conversation, but here we are.
Mike Garafolo from NFL Network reported that he spoke with Sirianni on the tush-push vote and Sirianni sent a very bold message to his former assistant coaches Shane Steichen, Jonathan Gannon, and Kellen Moore about the vote. Sirianni went on to say that all three former assistants, who now head coaches with their respectable teams, "are in the (head coach) position right now because of that play. So all three, I better have those three votes right there and the Eagles vote. I at least know we have four." wrote Garafolo.
Nick Sirianni makes it very clear on what he expects from his former coaches
Never did I believe that we would be having a conversation about a play called the tush push being banned, but this play has caused a lot of conversation on whether or not it’s safe for the game. At the same time, it’s no different than a QB sneak but having someone lined up right behind the quarterback to give that extra push.
At the end of the day, the Eagles have a massive offensive line so they will have a big advantage in these kinds of situations. An opposing defensive unit should know that when they are playing the Eagles, they will see the tush push at some point. Find a way to stop it.
As for Steichen, Gannon, and Moore, who knows what their votes will be but Sirianni does have a point. Without them coaching in Philly, who knows if they would be head coaches right now. Maybe they can do a little favor for Sirianni, but we will find out soon enough.
