The Philadelphia Eagles are hoping to see 2025 first-round pick Jihaad Campbell at full speed at some point this offseason following his shoulder surgery.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio told reporters last week that Campbell might be ready to go by August; however, head coach Nick Sirianni doesn't want to put a date on the rookie linebacker's return.
"Yeah, you know we'll see," Sirianni said during the Eagles' mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, June 10. "I don't ever want to put a timetable on anybody. Some guys get through things quicker than others and vice versa. So no timetable on that as far as when he'll be ready. I know he's doing everything he can to get himself ready."
Campbell did not fully participate in Philly's rookie minicamp last month, but he did take part in some walk-through drills with the linebackers just like he did on Tuesday.
That’s certainly an encouraging sign as he continues his recovery
Standing at 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, Campbell arrived from Alabama with top-15 buzz leading up to the draft, but when he slid to the Eagles at No. 31 overall, which was widely viewed as a steal for Philly.
In his final season with the Crimson Tide, he was a game-changer, leading the team with 117 total tackles, including a team-high 54 solo stops. He showcased his dominance with 11.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. That standout and final campaign earned him first-team All-SEC honors, as well as semifinalist recognition for both the Bednarik and Butkus Awards.
Campbell offers a great deal of versatility to Philly's defense, something Vic Fangio highly values.. That versatility is also a major reason the Eagles were so eager to trade up for him in the first round. We will hopefully get to see a glimpse of how the Eagles plan to use him before Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.
