The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is the fifth spinoff of AMC's long-running apocalyptic series The Walking Dead. The series continues Daryl Dixon's (Norman Reedus) story as he journeys to far-off places, significantly enlarging The Walking Dead universe. The first season premiered in 2023, and the second will begin this fall.
The second season is subtitled The Book of Carol as Melissa McBride returns to the universe, reprising her role as Daryl's best friend, Carol Peletier. Viewers will see Carol and Daryl's parallel journeys as she looks for her long-lost friend in the States and he battles against the Pouvoir, or The Power of the Living in France.
AMC and AMC+ will debut the second season of the Daryl Dixon series on September 29 with exclusive content on AMC+ and a special look ahead for the upcoming season.
This week, Reedus took to social media to subtly announce that filming for the third season of the series had commenced. While the idea of more Carol and Daryl is quite exciting to many within the fandom, the added excitement is that this season will be set and filmed in Spain, once again expanding the universe.
Reedus announced the change in filming location during an interview with Radio Times. The official announcement came at the 2024 SDCC panel hosted in Hall H, where it was confirmed that the third season will be produced and set in Spain. Filming began this week and is based in Madrid, but it will also be shot in other locations, including Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia, and Valencia.
The third season will focus on Carol and Daryl and their mission to return to the United States to reunite with their loved ones. While on their travels, their path leads them further than ever from their destination. The pair travels to distant lands as they witness the various effects of the undead apocalypse.
The Daryl Dixon series premiered in 2023 and, according to AMC Networks, immediately became the No. 1 most-viewed premiere of all time on AMC+, the most-viewed season of any show in the history of AMC+, and a top acquisition driver in both the U.S. and Spain. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has since surpassed Daryl Dixon in those categories.
