Norman Reedus Reveals How Much Longer He Wants to Play Daryl Dixon

Norman Reedus has been playing the role of Daryl Dixon since the first season of The Walking Dead premiered in 2010. Ultimately, the actor could end up spending more than two decades of his life in the role, as he's teasing that there might be several more years left to go.

Reedus commented on his future as Daryl Dixon in a new interview with Mr. Feelgood. He shared how his own spinoff series, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, renewed his interest in the role by doing something completely different. As long as Reedus can continue to find unique ways to "reinvent" the franchise, he teased that there could be as many as "maybe six or seven more years."

Daryl Dixon Dog The Walking Dead

“The Daryl Dixon spinoff has given me an opportunity to take the show in a direction that’s different to the original show,” he told Mr. Feelgood. “I didn’t want to make the same show again in a different location. I wanted to reinvent it. And they let me, with the other like-minded people involved, invent something new. So it feels fresh to me. It’s in a different language. It’s shot a different way. It’s not really about zombies, and who’s going to get bit this week, it’s completely different. So as long as I keep reinventing it, it’s fun.”

"I think maybe six or seven more years."

On how the interesting location helped make the spinoff feel fresh, Reedus added, "We went to Paris, and we didn’t want to make an American show and drop it in a European country, not have it reflect anything of the place that we were filming it at. So we wanted the French people to look at it and feel like it was their show, too. And it worked. French people love the show. So I’m excited for them to see Season 2."

Glenn's Death on The Walking Dead Wasn't as Bad as People Think It Was

Every once in a while, Glenn Rhee's gruesome death in The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere comes back to haunt everyone. His death was a turn-off for many fans of the series. Many claim it was too violent to put on cable television. But at that point in the series, cannibals were slashing people's throats and walkers were ripping survivors apart. There was far worse gore in previous seasons, which had already cut out much more disturbing scenes from the comics. The true problem with Glenn's death was that it was teased by a cliffhanger that people had to wait months for. Gore and guts is par for the course of The Walking Dead. You can't blame it for going all out with the most iconic death from the comics.

Carol Joins Daryl in Season 2 of the Walking Dead Spinoff

The first season of Daryl Dixon saw the zombie slayer meeting an all-new cast of characters in an entirely different continent. However, the second season will see Daryl joined by a familiar face. After first appearing in Season 1, Melissa McBride's Carol Peletier will be featured as a series regular in the second season. With this in mind, Season 2 has been titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol.
