Norman Reedus Wants Daryl Dixon to Run For Several More Years

The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus has an optimistic outlook on his future as Daryl Dixon, commenting that he could see his new eponymous spin-off series running for “maybe six or seven more years.” This is certainly news that will be music to the ears of all Daryl fans out there, but whether it could be a reality is yet to be seen.

In a recent interview for his new movie The Bikeriders with Mr Feelgood, Reedus responded to the question of how much gas he believes is still in Daryl’s bike in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. It seems that the actor believes that there is a long future ahead for his series, as long as the franchise continues to reinvent itself. He said:

"I think maybe six or seven more years. The 'Daryl Dixon' spin-off has given me an opportunity to take the show in a direction that's different to the original show. I didn't want to make the same show again in a different location. I wanted to reinvent it. And they let me, with the other like-minded people involved, invent something new. So it feels fresh to me. It's in a different language. It's shot a different way. It's not really about zombies, and who's going to get bit this week, it's completely different. So, as long as I keep reinventing it, it's fun,"

Daryl Dixon Season 2 Will Debut Later in 2024

Having scored strong reviews and viewership for Season 1 of Daryl Dixon, Reedus will be back again later in the year, and this time he will be joined once again by Melissa McBride’s Carol. While the actress was unable to commit to filming on the first season, she did appear briefly in the final episode to hint at her more prominent role in Season 2.

This was all confirmed by the second season’s subtitle of “The Book of Carol.” While there have been few details revealed about where Daryl and Carol will end up in the new episodes, Reedus has previously suggested that Season 3 is already preparing to film. Considering Season 2 of Daryl Dixon was given the green light before the first season aired, it is likely that a renewal has already been agreed behind closed doors at AMC.

Since the flagship series came to an end, the franchise has gone through the kind of reinvention Reedus mentions. Spinning off three separate series that focus on the franchise’s biggest and most loved characters has been a huge win for a show that appeared to be shambling into its final resting place a few years ago. Now Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and The Ones Who Live have managed to inject new life to the zombie hordes and The Walking Dead are on an unstoppable march once again.

Filming is currently underway on Dead City Season 2, which will continue Negan and Maggie’s perilous journey in New York, while Daryl Dixon will return to AMC on September 29. There has been no word on whether The Ones Who Live will continue Rick’s story in the future.
