For the better part of the offseason, Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham has stated that the 2024 year would be his final one in the league.
That may no longer be the case, though.
After a strong start to the season in his team-high 15 year on the job, Graham is rethinking his whole retirement plan in the first place.
"Honestly, I'm going to stay ready just for one more year," Graham said. "Just in case if a situation popped up where it's like, ‘OK, they need me.' But right now I'm just trying to get through this year and enjoy it as much as I can. And hopefully make a bunch of plays to help the team and help (my teammates) get to their next level."
Graham is the longest-tenured Eagle in franchise history - surpassing Hall-of-Famer Chuck Bednarik this season. Another year would not only put the then-37-year-old in uncharted territory but also close out one of the wildest chapters in team history.
And whether it's his slow start to his career or his game-winning play in Super Bowl LII, Graham is now an integral part of Eagles history - whether he is on or off the field."Either way, I'm going to be a part of whatever they're doing next year. As a player, who knows? But I might stay ready another year depending on how everything goes this year. "I just want to be able to help in whatever role because I know where they're going right now and I want to be a part of that."
