Opinion: I Don’t Like How Dorit Kemsley Spoke With Garcelle Beauvais

The women of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills don’t always get along. Point and case would be Garcelle Beauvais and Dorit Kemsley. These two diamonds in the rough are like oil and water. Rarely have the two moms seen eye to eye. But Season 14 has once again shown the two at one another’s throats. While Dorit is no doubt going through a hard time due to her separation from PK Kemsley, it doesn’t give her the right to make others feel bad. So leave it to Garcelle to hold her frenemy accountable whether she likes it or not.

Garcelle Beauvais comes for Dorit Kemsley

During yet another nice dinner, Dorit found the time to embellish her apology to Kyle Richards. The sentiment was so insincere that the Coming to American actress couldn’t help but balk at the notion. Dorit paused, asking, “Pardon.” Without missing a beat, Garcelle calls out Dorit’s lack of an apology as a constant pattern. Amid the argument, Dorit claimed she is great at acknowledging when she has hurt someone’s feelings. But Garcelle quipped, “No, I wouldn’t agree with that,” adding that Dorit doesn’t apologize.

Rudely, Dorit replied, “I’m not surprised that you agree with that. And, let’s be honest. I’m not your favorite person. You’re very clear about that.” Now, I had to pause the TV because I was so taken aback by Dorit. The way the Beverly Beach founder talks to Garcelle consistently blows my mind. Luckily, Garcelle was ready for the disrespect. She shut down the argument, telling Dorit, “Okay. Great. Then we’re on the same page.” I would go as far as to say the way Dorit speaks to Garcelle is actually disgusting.

Garcelle Beauvais once called Dorit Kemsley a ‘Karen’

During Season 13, Dorit had a talent for sticking her foot in it. Whether she realized it or not, her behavior towards some of her castmates was unacceptable. However, Dorit has had a particularly hard time interacting with Garcelle. In Season 13, the bathing suit designer uses the word “attacked” when trying to talk to Garcelle, but it does not go down well. During their sit down, the actress explained, “The other night, the word attack just hit me in the wrong place,” Garcelle began.

“There are certain words when you point them at me it has a complete different impact. There are three words you don’t say to Black women. You don’t say aggressive, you don’t say attack and you don’t say angry, because that’s labeling us.” The mother of three continued, “What I feel is there’s a pattern with you that I don’t know whether you’re aware or not, but I’m just going to be completely blunt, it feels like an unconscious Karen behavior with you.” Dorit felt blindsided, telling cameras, “This is a very, very serious, dangerous accusation. It’s hurtful, and that accusation holds a lot of implications and I’m not feeling comfortable with this at all.” But the fact remains that she never really seemed to understand exactly how her words can come across. Season 14 shows that she once again doesn’t care to hear how she might be overstepping.

Dorit Kemsley is losing fan support

I took the time to rewatch the Season 13 scene and even the Season 11 scene when Dorit claimed Garcelle was being “jabby and shady.” I couldn’t help but agree with Garcelle’s feelings of being an outsider. The Season 11 scene showed Dorit brushing away Garcelle’s feelings, literally telling her, “No, no, no” after Garcelle noted, “My opinion only works if it satisfies you.” This latest confrontation has made me feel very uncomfortable as a viewer because it feels like Dorit is relentless regarding Garcelle. The actress has long been fed up with Dorit’s “white privilege,” and she told her so during last season’s Taco Tuesday Night. It was icing on the cake that Erika Jayne had to sit Dorit down to explain the issue.

Without trying to be too mean to Dorit so as not to offend, I, like other Real Housewives of Beverly Hills viewers, feel like Dorit has been living in a bubble. She doesn’t do well when confronted with her pitfalls and often makes herself the victim in hopes of gaining sympathy. Honestly, as a viewer, I am at the point where Dorit needs to ship up or shape up. Or at least actively try to be kinder to Garcelle and the rest of the women. Remember Dorit, kindness costs nothing.
