The Green Bay Packers already had a surplus of wide receivers last year. Now, they have an overabundance, as they selected both Matthew Golden and Savion Williams in the NFL Draft.
Chances are, the Packers are going to move a wide out at some point, and with Romeo Doubs heading into the final year of his contract, he seems like an obvious candidate.
Freddie Boston of Lombardi Ave has identified a perfect landing spot for Doubs, singling out the Los Angeles Chargers following the retirement of Mike Williams.
“The Chargers desperately need wide receiver help after losing Williams, and if the Packers are going to trade a key starter, it sure helps if they play in the AFC,” Boston wrote. “… How can Doubs get the targets he wants in such a deep receiving room? It’s impossible. The Packers should make a trade, and the Chargers may now be in the market.”
Remember: last year, Doubs expressed dissatisfaction with his role and was actually suspended one game by the Packers as a result of skipping a couple of practices. However, he still managed to catch 46 passes for 601 yards and four touchdowns, averaging a career-high 13.1 yards per reception.
The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Nevada, was selected by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Doubs has certainly outperformed his draft position, developing into a very reliable option in the Packers’ aerial attack. But with Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks and Christian Watson (when he gets healthy) on board as well as Golden and Williams, Green Bay could try to flip him.
Would Doubs command a hefty return in a trade? Probably not, but the Packers may be able to pry a third or fourth-round pick away from a team like the Chargers in a potential swap.
