Packers Could Trade Romeo Doubs to Super Bowl Contender to Fill Sudden Void
The Green Bay Packers have a bit of a logjam at wide receiver, which could result in a veteran struggling to make the squad this summer, or a potential blockbuster trade to bolster other areas across the roster.
After drafting Matthew Golden in the first round, adding third-round choice Savion Williams, and inking veteran Mecole Hardman as a free agent, wide receiver could be a spot that general manager Brian Gutekunst looks to pull off a trade in order to fill another need.
Packers’ Romeo Doubs is Perfect Fit for Los Angeles Chargers
If the Packers don’t view Doubs as the No. 1 wide receiver on the depth chart, it could be worth exploring a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers.
After all, the Chargers just saw veteran wide receiver Mike Williams abruptly announce his retirement on Tuesday, creating a void in quarterback Justin Herbert’s supporting cast.
Los Angeles has made significant investments on both sides of the football this offseason, particularly by adding running back Najee Harris and offensive guard Mekhi Becton to set Herbert up to make a leap and lift the Chargers into a deep postseason run.
However, adding a playmaker such as Doubs could unlock Herbert’s ability to push the ball vertically and create big-play opportunities for the Chargers’ offense.
Doubs, 25, caught 46 passes for 601 yards last season with four touchdowns, and, as Pro Football Focus points out, Jordan Love posted a 99.8 passer rating when targeting him.
If the Chargers offer general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers an early-round pick or offensive lineman to help keep Love upright, this could be an ideal opportunity for both teams to check a big box in their resprective bids to build a Super Bowl caliber roster.
