Packers cut ties with former Pittsburgh Steelers running back

Steelers QB Justin Fields says team much finish drives with TDs

Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back La’Mical Perine has been released by the Green Bay Packers just two weeks after signing to their practice squad. Perine was cut by the Steelers during the cut downs to the 53-man roster. Instead of signing him back to their practice squad, the Steelers added Boston Scott and re-signed Jonathan Ward. After Scott was injured, the Steelers brought Aaron Shampklin back.

Perine spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs before joining the Steelers. A fourth-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft, Perine has 340 rushing yards in his career. He lasted just two seasons in New York, jumping around until finding a home with the Chiefs. During his time there, Perine was part of the two Super Bowl-winning teams for the Chiefs.

The 26-year-old will now look for another opportunity and could check back in with the Steelers now that he is on the market. By the end of the preseason, Perine was the first running back off the bench, so the Steelers clearly liked him enough to give him carries.
