Packers expected to sign former Cardinals’ 8-time Pro Bowler for playoff run

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a tough loss to the Detroit Lions, but with a (9-4) record, they are sitting at the top of the NFC Wildcard race and have enough talent to make a run in the playoffs.

Patrick Peterson expects to be playmaker in 2018

In his second season as the team’s starting QB, Jordan Love is playing as good as many of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and he has a dangerous supporting cast that will give opposing defenses headaches in the postseason.

One of the bright spots for the Packers this season has been their defense, a unit that struggled mightily in 2023 under former DC Joe Barry.

The Green Bay Packers brought in former Boston College head coach Jeff Haffley as their defensive coordinator this offseason — and the move has paid off for the most part.

The Packers are coming off a solid defensive effort against the No. 1 offense in the NFL, limiting the Lions’ dynamic running attack to just 76 rushing yards on 20 attempts.

But there are still massive holes in the secondary and if the Packers are going to make a postseason run, they need help on the back end to shut down opposing receivers.

Jaire Alexander is still working to return from injury,  while Carrington Valentine has been inconsistent throughout the year.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine believes the Packers should sign former Arizona Cardinals All-Pro Patrick Peterson for help in the secondary as they make a run toward the playoffs.

Part of the reason the Packers lost to the Lions is the team's secondary is beaten up. Jaire Alexander has barely played since Week 8, including missing this week's game, and Corey Ballentine was out as well, which impacts the defense's depth at cornerback.

It couldn't hurt to at least bring in Peterson for a workout and see what he has left in the tank, especially with the playoffs coming up. While the 34-year-old isn't the player he used to be, he does have seven interceptions and 26 passes defended over the last two seasons combined. At this stage, that might be the club's best option heading into the postseason

Peterson played the best football of his career with the Cardinals making the Pro Bowl eight times from 2011-2018 and earning first team All-Pro honors three times during that span.
