Packers History-Maker Cornerback Reportedly Drawing CFL Interest

The Green Bay Packers find themselves in a thin position at cornerback. Their two expected starters, Nate Hobbs and Keisean Nixon, have primarily played in the slot. Additionally, the depth behind them does not inspire much confidence. Still, the organization trusts Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley to elevate and maximize the secondary’s potential—a reasonable expectation given his strong reputation for developing defensive backs.

Competition within Green Bay’s cornerback room should be intense entering training camp and throughout the preseason. Every player will have a chance to shine and prove why they deserve a spot on the final 53-man roster. However, the reality is that while some may find success in these opportunities, for others, it could mark the end of their NFL career.

Still, one of Green Bay's cornerbacks is on the radar of a CFL team. If he has a productive preseason, he could earn a roster spot with the Green & Gold, but that success might also increase his chances of landing a job elsewhere if he were not to make past the final cuts.

According to Acme Packing Company’s Justis Mosqueda, Packers cornerback Gregory Junior is reportedly on the negotiation list of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Gregory Junior entered the NFL as a sixth-round selection in 2022 by the Jacksonville Jaguars, making history as the first player ever drafted from Ouachita Baptist University. During the 2022–23 season, he appeared in 10 games, tallying 17 total tackles, including 11 solo stops, two tackles for loss, and one pass breakup. After being cut during the 2024 training camp, Junior spent time on the practice squads of both the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans before joining the Packers this offseason.

Junior should get significant playing time during this preseason. However, if he makes the final roster, he will likely be assigned primarily to special teams. Junior has the kind of physical frame that Green Bay typically values in cornerbacks, and with Jeff Hafley’s coaching, there is a chance the staff can unlock more of his potential.

It is a good sign that Junior is drawing interest from the CFL. Even if he does not make Green Bay’s final roster, playing in the CFL would give him a chance to show what he can do and maybe earn another shot in the NFL later on.
