The Green Bay Packers and star cornerback Jaire Alexander are actively working toward a resolution regarding his future with the team, according to ESPN‘s Rob Demovsky. As it stands, all options remain on the table, including a possible trade, release, or a surprising return to Green Bay for the 2025 season.
Alexander’s situation has been one of the biggest storylines surrounding the Packers this offseason. After an injury-plagued 2024 campaign where he appeared in just seven games, questions about his long-term future intensified. Financially, Alexander is set to carry a $24 million cap hit in 2025, making him one of the highest-paid players on the roster. A release would save the Packers roughly $6.8 million, or over $17 million if designated as a post-June 1 cut.
Despite the uncertainty, Green Bay’s minimal investment at the cornerback position during the 2025 NFL Draft suggests the door remains open for reconciliation. The Packers selected only one corner, Micah Robinson, in the seventh round, signalling they are not aggressively preparing for life without Alexander. Many thought the Packers would take a cornerback in the first three rounds of the draft.
General manager Brian Gutekunst has maintained a noncommittal stance, telling reporters, “No updates. We’ll proceed as we go for right now, and we’ll see how it goes”, emphasizing that Alexander remains under contract. With OTAs and training camp around the corner, a decision will likely come soon.
For the Packers, keeping Jaire Alexander could bolster a secondary that still has championship aspirations. For Alexander, staying in Green Bay could offer a chance to reestablish himself as one of the league’s premier corners if he can stay healthy.
As discussions continue, the Packers face a crucial choice: move on from a former All-Pro or find a path forward that benefits both sides.
