Packers Labeled As Good Fit By Top All-American Wide Receiver

Unless you're a Green Bay Packers fan living under a rock, you're likely aware that it's been 22 years since the team selected a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft. General Manager Brian Gutekunst has stated that the team has no qualms about drafting a wideout on Day 1. However, until they pull the trigger, it would still catch many by surprise.

Packers Labeled As Good Fit By Top All-American Wide Receiver

The long-term outlook of Green Bay's wide receiver corps is concerning. Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson will enter the final year of their rookie deals in 2025. Meanwhile, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks combined for 19 drops last year. The Packers recognize the need to add competition to their receiver room. In response, they have taken proactive steps by bringing in potential first-round targets Emeka Egbuka, Tetairoa McMillan, and Matthew Golden for visits.

McMillan was in Green Bay on Wednesday for the NFL Draft, having been invited by the league to join the group of prospects in the green room. While there, he took part in a pre-draft event with local youth, where he also shared his thoughts with the media about the possibility of staying in Wisconsin if the Packers select him.

"They've been showing me nothing but love throughout this whole draft process," McMillan said.

Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reported that McMillan also discussed his fit in Matt LaFleur's offensive system.

"I feel like I could fit in any offense well," McMillan added. "But this one specifically, yeah."

In 2023, McMillan earned Third-Team Associated Press All-American honors and was named Second-Team All-Pac-12. He led Arizona with 1,402 receiving yards and tied for the team lead with 90 receptions.

Last year, McMillan took another leap. He was named a First-Team Associated Press All-American and earned First-Team All-Big 12 recognition. He ranked third in the FBS with 1,319 receiving yards, led his team with 84 catches and eight touchdown receptions, and set a school record with 3,423 career receiving yards.

The talented Arizona product is a top-fifteen prospect in the draft and could be selected as high as number four overall. Depending on how the board falls, there’s a chance he could be available when the Packers pick. If so, he would be a much-needed addition to a receiving corps that needs depth and enhanced competition.
