Packers Linked to All-Pro Wide Receiver

The Los Angeles Rams are moving on from former All-Pro wide receiver Cooper Kupp, according to Tom Pelissero , opening the door for teams like the Green Bay Packers to pursue him as a short-term spark plug into their offense.

Packers Linked to All-Pro Wide Receiver

The 2021 triple crown winner has had a few tough years, struggling to stay healthy and missing multiple games in every season since. This ultimately led to his release after a trade failed to materialize.

The Green Bay Packers will be one of many teams interested in his services, and according to Air Meirov, they've been keeping a close eye on him, waiting for his release.

The Packers were also linked to DK Metcalf before his trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but never made an official trade offer.

Green Bay will have to pay significantly less for Kupp, but he won't return the same long-term option that Metcalf could have. Regardless, the Packers are in need of a receiver who can be a go to option, but not necessarily a high-volume player with multiple worthy targets already available.

The team hasn't shied away from spending money this free agency having signed guard Aaron Banks and cornerback Nate Hobbs earlier in the process. Green Bay didn't boast plentiful cap space but had more than enough to work with to add the pair and keep some flexibility. Kupp won't break the bank like the former did, but he'll still cost around $12-15 million.

This is the type of short-term, aggressive move a team like the Packers needs to make to be competitive for a championship in 2025. Kupp carries plenty of risk, but it only takes one inspired postseason run to be worth the gamble.
