The Green Bay Packers will have some interesting decisions to make when handing out contracts to star players. Two players who will need to be extended at some point are quarterback Jordan Love and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Green Bay is trying to extend Love before the start of the 2024 season and Clark may have to wait until after the season.
This offseason, general manager Brian Gutekunst signed running back Josh Jacobs and safety Xavier McKinney off the free agent. The Green Bay Packers in a few years will also need to hand out bigger contracts to other young players, but at least they do not have to worry about that at the moment.
What Green Bay can’t do is overpay for players. We will see who else gets contract extensions when the time comes.
Bleacher Report Brad Gagnon Predicts That the Green Bay Packers Will Regret Giving Former First-Round Pick Rashan Gary a Contract Extension
Bleacher Report writer Brad Gagnon recently mentioned several teams potentially regretting big-time contracts they recently handed out to players. One of the 10 players that Gagnon mentioned was Rashan Gary of the Green Bay Packers.
Gary signed a four-year contract extension worth $96 million in 2023. Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report said:
“Why they gave it to him: He was a key cog just months away from becoming eligible for free agency.
Why they might regret it: There’s no denying his talent, but Gary is now 26 and five years into his career. He’s never been a first- or second-team All-Pro, nor has he been a Pro Bowler. His numbers haven’t taken off, and his consistency is sometimes lacking. Has he peaked?”
Interestingly, he has not been to a Pro Bowl in his NFL career yet. Rashan Gary is one of the best players on the Green Bay Packers’ defense. Last season, he recorded 44 tackles, nine sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two pass deflections.
A Switch From a 3-4 to a 4-3 Could Help Him
The Green Bay Packers are switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3 defensive scheme this season. Maybe Rashan Gary will reach more of his defensive potential with Jeff Hafley as the new defensive coordinator compared to Joe Barry.
In this new 4-3 defensive scheme, Rashan Gary is projected to be one of the starting defensive ends for the Green Bay Packers. Preston Smith will be the other starting defensive end for Green Bay. Maybe Gary will reach double-digit sacks this season with a new defensive scheme.
