The Messiah has returned.

Packers re-sign tight end Messiah Swinson - Acme Packing Company

In Week 1, the Carolina Panthers poached then-Green Bay Packers practice squad tight end Messiah Swinson to their 53-man roster. After not recording a snap for the team for three weeks, the Panthers elected to waive Swinson on Tuesday.

Without Swinson, the Packers then signed tight end Johnny Lumpkin to their practice squad for the displacement of Swinson. Lumpkin was released from the practice squad back on Tuesday, though, shortly after it was announced that the Panthers waived Swinson.

At that point, it seemed obvious that the Packers were going to try to re-sign Swinson back to their practice squad, as long as he passed through waivers on Wednesday. He did so and returned to Green Bay for Thursday’s practice.

Swinson, a 6’7”, 259-pound blocking tight end, must have shown the Packers something in the summer because they’re keeping a spot on their 70-man team for him. Hopefully, they can get something out of the former Missouri and Arizona State product, even if it takes a couple of years — as Green Bay seems more than content with their three-man rotation of Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave and Ben Sims at the moment.

Feel free to insert all your Messiah puns in the comment section. Best one wins.
