Packers Rookie Savion Williams Earns Comparison To Seven-Time All-Pro

Green Bay Packers rookie wideout Savion Williams might be the most versatile player from their 2025 draft class. In his final season at TCU, he played 345 snaps on the perimeter, but his role didn’t stop there — he also logged 38 snaps from the backfield and another 46 at quarterback in wildcat looks. That level of flexibility opens up plenty of creative options for Green Bay’s offense and should make them more dangerous.

“You love the versatility,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said after the draft. “The ability to go in there and play wildcat quarterback, get in the backfield and play halfback, or jet sweeps. You just want to find different ways to get him the ball because he’s so big, he’s so powerful, so explosive, and guys just have a tendency to bounce off him. He’s just scratching the surface of the playmaker that he can become.”

Williams is the type of receiver who can haul in contested catches with ease but sometimes struggles with routine ones. Among 194 FBS wide receivers with at least 10 contested receptions since 2017, he leads all of them in career contested catch rate — securing 75% of his 50/50 balls. However, he recorded a career-high eight drops in his final year at TCU, an issue he will need to clean up if he hopes to last in the NFL.

Like with any rookie, there are areas of Williams’ game that need refinement. But even with those concerns, he remains a highly intriguing talent who could help elevate Green Bay’s offense. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic loves Williams’ physical traits and even compared him to a former Super Bowl champion and seven-time All-Pro.

“He’s a different player from Quentin Johnston. This kid is a brute. Loves contact. Seeks contact. He’s like Cordarelle Patterson. When he learns to run routes, that run after the catch is gonna be crazy," Feldman wrote.

Cordarrelle Patterson put together an impressive list of accomplishments throughout his NFL career. He was named an All-Pro seven times, selected to four Pro Bowls, led the league in kickoff return yards in both 2019 and 2020, and earned a place on the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team.

The Minnesota Vikings drafted Patterson as a wide receiver in 2013, but he struggled to find consistency during his early seasons in the league. Over time, he reinvented himself into a versatile offensive weapon — someone who could contribute as a runner, receiver, and return man — and ultimately carved out a unique role as one of the league’s most dynamic all-around athletes.

Savion Williams should have a long and productive NFL career if he can build a résumé even remotely close to Patterson’s. However, to reach that level, he will need to become more consistent in catching the football. If he can clean up that part of his game, Williams has the tools and versatility to develop into one of Green Bay’s top receivers for the foreseeable future.
