Packers Rumors Swirling About Interest in 6-Foot-5 Star

As the Georgia Bulldogs prepare for the upcoming college football season, some of the team's star players are among the top prospects in the 2025 NFL draft. A significant part of the 2024 team was junior Mykel Williams.

The Green Bay Packers appear to have taken noticed based on the latest NFL draft rumors. Williams ended the season with 21 tackles (15 solo and 6 assisted), 5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.

The defender declared for the NFL draft on Jan. 6 and is projected to be a first-round pick.

With the NFL draft less than one month away, Williams is reportedly going to visit the Green Bay Packers. Despite pushing through an ankle injury most of the season, the 6-foot-5, 265-pound EDGE's play piqued the interest of the team with the No. 23 overall pick in the draft.

The Packers' interest in the EDGE comes even after a pro day performance that was "well below expectations," in the words of ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller. The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler reported that the Packers will host Williams for one of the team's 30 available visits with prospects ahead of the NFL draft.

"Last week, Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams had scouts asking questions after his pro day workout," Miller wrote on March 21. "Weighing in at 267 pounds, Williams was timed at 4.75 seconds in the 40-yard dash. That's well below expectations given his reputation as a high-level mover."

Citing his ankle injury, Williams refrained from participating in the NFL combine. Pointing that out, Miller adds:

"And remember, he did not participate in the combine, meaning that pro day showing is his only data point in pre-draft testing," Miller explained. "Williams played through an ankle injury for much of the season, so much of his draft projection has been based on upside and potential."

In his projection, Miller dropped him to No. 22 in his rankings, adding that he could slide to the middle of the first round. Athlon Sports' Luke Easterling's latest NFL mock draft has the Carolina Panthers taking Williams with the No. 8 pick.

Green Bay may need to move up in the draft in order to have a chance to land Williams.
