Patrick Mahomes Has No Words for Chiefs' First-Round Pick

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is ready for a revenge tour following the team's blowout loss in Super Bowl LIX.

Speaking to reporters one day before the 2025 NFL draft, "You have that bad taste in your mouth from the last time you stepped on the football field and you kind of have to hear about it all offseason," Mahomes said.

"So it gives you the push that you want to go out there and be better and show what we're really about."

Like all of Chiefs Kingdom, the three-time Super Bowl MVP was glued to the TV as Kansas City waited to make their first-round pick on Thursday night.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach made fans wait just a little bit longer, trading back with the Eagles in order to select offensive tackle Josh Simmons at No. 32. In the exchange, the Chiefs received the Eagles' fifth round-pick (164th overall).

Simmons likely slid down the draft board due to his injury history, as the Ohio State alum suffered a patella tendon rupture in Oct. 2024. While there's a bit of a risk with the 6-foot-5, 310-pound tackle, as he's still working his way back to full health, Mahomes appeared to approve of the move.

Mahomes posted just minutes before the Simmons pick was officially announced, "😎."

One fan posted, "Trust the captain." One woman wrote, "Our guy approves." The Kansas City Star's Jeff Rosen added, "all you need to know in kc." Another fan posted, "QB1 is happy …"

While numerous fans and analysts struggled to get excited about Simmons, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler posted, "Several teams agree: Josh Simmons had best tape of any OT last year. And they aren't very concerned with recovery on the torn patella tendon.

"More of the concern is maturity/character. But he's going to the ideal, veteran-laden place."
