Being one of the most popular athletes on the planet today, Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes has had his fair share of celebrity encounters through the years.
One that has left quite a mark in his memory is a pretty wild experience with Grammy Award-nominated rapper Post Malone, who made sure that Mahomes would remember their encounter for the rest of the quarterback's life.
In a recent ad for T-Mobile, Malone reflected on his Chiefs tattoo while he was getting new ink done. The hip-hop star admitted that his Chiefs tattoo is one of his favorite ones because of the epic backstory.
"I told Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes that if they beat me in a game of beer pong, I would get a tattoo of their signatures and the Kansas City Chiefs logo," Malone said. "And they cheated, so I lost. ... That's probably my funnest story."
Mahomes caught wind of the accusation, and the Chiefs QB quickly responded with a message to the country singer.
"To be clear, we won fair and square @postmalone 😂" Mahomes posted.
The infamous tattoo incident went down following the Chiefs' Super Bowl win against the San Francisco 49ers in 2020. After their victory in Miami, Mahomes and Kelce attended Malone's concert in Kansas City, where the acclaimed rapper challenged the Chiefs stars to a game of beer pong backstage before his performance.
With one thing leading to another, Malone ended up getting a Chiefs logo tattooed along with Mahomes and Kelce's signatures.
In a GQ interview in 2020, Mahomes told his version of the story, as the All-Pro QB revealed how he tried to convince Malone not to go through with the bet.
“He has a tattoo artist literally in the room,” Mahomes recalled. “I'm like, ‘Dude, you do not actually have to get a tattoo of our autographs.’”
Malone did not listen to Mahomes' advice, though, and he proved that he was a man of his word. Mahomes, however, maintains to this day that the bet was won fair and square.
