Patriots QB Drake Maye explains what type of receivers he wants to work with in New England

After his rookie season, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has already been anointed the franchise guy by most of the fan base and local media despite the team's 3-9 record in his starts (and in two of those wins he played less than a quarter).

Maye finished his first year completing 66.6% of his passes for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing for another 421 yards and two scores.

While the play looked better than his numbers or the team's record, Maye needs help to reach his full potential. That will include upgrading a receiving corps which was one of the worst in the league in 2024.

Last week, Maye took a minute with Scott Zolak and Marc Bertrand of 98.5 The Sports Hub to break down exactly what type of receiver he's hoping the Patriots add this offseason.

“A guy that can win 1-on-1, a guy that has feel in zone, and a guy that just wants the rock in his hand — wants the ball and wants to go make plays," Maye said.

There will be plenty of those wideouts available before New England takes the field in Week 1, whether that be in free agency, a trade or the draft.

No matter how they add talent at the position, they need to make sure it happens, or Maye's growth could be stunted while learning a new offense in just his second professional season.
