Patriots Undrafted Rookie Turns Heads With Latest Social Media Post

One of the most competitive areas on the New England Patriots roster heading into the 2025 season is the wide receiver position. And while he’s not exactly a lock to make the roster, one guy who keeps on catching attention is undrafted rookie Efton Chism III.

Former NFL player says Patriots undrafted WR plays like Julian Edelman

Despite starring for the Eastern Washington Eagles in college, Chism didn’t hear his name get called during the 2025 NFL Draft. He drew quite a bit of interest immediately after the draft wrapped up, though, with the Patriots eventually managing to bring him to town.

2024 was the best season of Chism’s collegiate career, as he caught 120 passes for 1,311 yards and 13 touchdowns. Along the way, he broke Eastern Washington’s single-season receptions record, which was previously held by former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp.

Chism fits the mold of an undersized slot receiver like Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, and Danny Amendola, all guys who enjoyed great success with New England in the past. The hope for the Pats is that, if Chism sticks around, he’d be able to follow in their footsteps.

During OTAs and mandatory minicamp, Chism was frequently labeled one of the top performers on the team. In the wake of minicamp wrapping up, Chism shared a post on Instagram with a strong five-word message that quickly caught the attention of Patriots Nation.

“Beyond Blessed. Thank you God,” Chism captioned the post, which featured several pictures of him from mandatory minicamp.

While Chism has stood out early, you can only put so much weight into OTAs and mandatory minicamp. Beyond that, Chism is going to have to beat out guys like Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Javon Baker if he wants to earn a roster spot.

The Patriots could release Chism and try to sneak him onto their practice squad, but if he continues to star during training camp, they may have no choice but to keep him. With that in mind, the undrafted pass catcher will be one of the top players to keep tabs on once training camp rolls around next month.
