All three films are currently playing in theaters with different degrees of success. His highly underrated romantic comedy Materialists, which marked a career first for Pascal, is also experiencing success on digital platforms. The star-studded rom-com is currently experiencing some success in theaters all over the world, and it's also exploding on PVOD since its recent release, FlixPatrol reports.
Materialists hit Amazon digital platforms in North America earlier last week and has been steadily in the charts ever since, fluctuating from sixth to seventh place. On iTunes, the film was even higher, ranging from No. 2 to No. 4.
Materialists was released in the U.S. on June 13 by A24, and is distributed internationally by Sony Pictures. The film is still available in theaters domestically, and it's just hit theaters in several territories around the world, including Europe and Central and South America.
The romantic comedy, which comes from Academy Award nominee Celine Song, stars Pedro Pascal alongside two other superhero alums, Madame Web's Dakota Johnson and MCU's Chris Evans. There is a further link between Pascal and Evans, as both were part of The Fantastic Four adaptations. Evans played Johnny Storm in 2005's Fantastic Four and its sequel, while Pascal is now playing Reed Richards in the MCU's take on the comic books.
Materialists follows Johnson's Lucy Mason, a successful matchmaker, who gets caught in a love triangle with her aspiring actor ex-boyfriend, John Finch (Evans), and a charming millionaire, Harry Castillo (Pascal).
Materialists received positive reviews from the critics, and it currently holds a 79% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a Certified Fresh badge. The movie received mixed reviews from the audience, holding a rating of 67% on the Popcornmeter. However, the movie is a decent commercial success so far. Although the film has yet to premiere in different countries around the world, it has already reached profit territory, having grossed $50.7 million worldwide against a $20 million budget, just enough to cover its investment and marketing costs.
Materialists Marked a Career First for Pedro Pascal
It might seem that Pedro Pascal is everywhere, and that's because his popularity has increased exponentially. The Chilean-American actor had his breakthrough role in Game of Thrones Season 4 as Oberyn Martell, and was also a part of shows like The Mandalorian and Narcos. However, he started gaining more impressive roles following his Emmy-nominated performance as Joel in HBO's The Last of Us.
However, despite his career that spans over two decades, Materialists marked a career first for Pascal: he hadn't starred in a romantic comedy before. The actor's popularity certainly required one, considering that he's charming, attractive, and has chemistry with all his co-stars. So far, he hasn't lined up another film in the genre, but Materialists could be the start for Pascal to balance blockbusters with roles in underrated genres like romantic comedies.
Materialists is currently playing in theaters and is also available to stream at home on digital platforms.
