Philadelphia Eagles may have hit the jackpot signing UDFA Toledo safety Maxon Hook

The Philadelphia Eagles may have hit the jackpot with at least one of their undrafted free agency signings.

Following the 2025 NFL Draft, the Eagles signed eight UDFAs, with former Toledo safety Maxon Hook being one with plenty of upside.

In fact, Hook was never projected to go undrafted as he was considered a fourth or fifth-round pick by the big NFL draft gurus, including NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein.

Here's what Zierlein praised about Hook's potential at the next level:

Four-year starter with the size, speed and production to catch the attention of NFL evaluators in the middle rounds. Hook patrols the field with a tangible urgency to fly around and make plays. He’s rangy over the top in coverage and plays with tremendous hustle to rack up tackles. His urgency also comes with missed run fits and occasional coverage mistakes when teams use misdirection against him. He has average pop as a tackler but has cut down on his misses. He plays the game with passion and will be an instant contributor on special teams. Hook could develop into a solid backup with the flexibility to play interchangeably at safety.

Hook had a final year as a senior safety for Toledo, racking up 107 total tackles, including 62 solo, two interceptions, and four pass breakups along the way. He barely missed any tackles, with one of the best rates in the country at just 6.4%, which put him in the top 10 among FBS safeties. It was also his third straight year making First-Team All-MAC, showing just how consistently solid he’s been for the Rockets.

The Eagles' safety room since the loss of C.J. Gardner-Johnson is questionable right now, though they did pick up Andrew Mukuba in the second round of the draft last weekend.

However, that doesn't mean that Hook won't have a chance to compete as a reliable backup throughout summer camps and training.
