Pittsburgh Steelers could target former All-Pro WR with Russell Wilson ties

The wide receiver free agency market consists of many veterans who have likely seen their better years. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, they could mean looking to a younger group of guys, or ones familiar with the organization or players on the Steelers. On the other hand, the trade market appears lush, with Cooper Kupp and Deebo Samuel already being put on the trade block.

The latest veteran who could be on the move is Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett. According to the Seahawks, they are still working through whether Lockett will be back, but the 32-year-old could be on his way out after being with the team for nearly a decade.

“I think we’re working through that right now,’’ head coach Mike Macdonald said. “But those decisions will happen probably when the time comes in the next month or two.”

Lockett is due a $5.3 million roster bonus on March 17, so any decision will come before then. He has a salary worth nearly $17 million, but could be cut for little to no cap hit since none of that money is guaranteed.

The Seahawks could look to shop Lockett or just outright cut him. He had 49 receptions for 600 yards this last season in 17 games, his lowest total since 2017. All signs point to Lockett being a player on the decline, but if the Steelers choose to re-sign Russell Wilson, he could want one of his favorite targets back with him.
