The Pittsburgh Steelers have cut ties with former Harvard running back Aaron Shampklin. Shampklin was elevated to the Steelers' 53-man roster after Jaylen Warren suffered a knee injury in the team’s Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, Shampklin was inactive against the New York Jets while the team elevated Jonathan Ward, who is not only getting more carries than Shampklin but is a significant contributor on special teams.
Shampklin could circle back and join the Steelers' practice squad, which has one spot open after Ward was elevated to the active roster. The Steelers have four running backs on their active roster, with La’Mical Perine on their practice squad as more depth. Cordarrelle Patterson has missed the last four weeks with an ankle injury.
Shampklin has six carries for 17 yards in three games played for the Steelers this season. Before coming to Pittsburgh, he most notably spent time with the Dallas Cowboys. Pittsburgh initially released him coming out of training camp but re-signed him to the practice squad after injuries piled up in the running back room.
