The Pittsburgh Steelers have cut running back La‘Mical Perine from their practice squad, the team announced on Tuesday. Perine was signed with the Steelers after multiple injuries arose in the running back room, but with Cordarrelle Patterson expected to return after the bye week, the team no longer needed Perine on their practice squad. This could signal that Aaron Shampklin, who was cut before Monday’s game, could return to the team.
Perine was signed by the Steelers in the summer and spent all of training camp and the preseason with them. A former draft pick of the New York Jets, Perine spent multiple years with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning two Super Bowls with the organization.
However, now, Perine will have to find a new spot after the Steelers got healthier at the running back position. He could always return with familiarity to the playbook, but the remains to be seen.
In addition to cutting Perine, the Steelers released cornerback Thomas Graham from the practice squad to open up another spot.
