The Pittsburgh Steelers have made it quite clear that the 2026 NFL Draft will be the year they look to land their next franchise quarterback. With the draft so far out, there are a lot of options being theorized for the team right now, but South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers makes a lot of sense.
Sellers has drawn some comparisons to his escapability with that of former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. And in ESPN’s latest mock draft, conducted by Matt Miller, the Steelers are projected to take Sellers.
“Sellers is one of the nation’s most exciting prospects, as he threw for 18 touchdowns to seven interceptions last season while rushing for 674 yards and seven scores,” Miller wrote. “The 6-foot-3, 242-pounder is big, strong and mobile and could be picked way before this if he cleans up some decision-making mistakes. With two years of eligibility following next season, Sellers is no lock to be in the draft, but his potential excites evaluators.”
Sellers is coming off a strong start to his career with the Gamecocks, and his electric ability to turn nothing into something, as well as boasting a rocket arm, make his natural tools intriguing.
The Steelers’ first attempt at drafting a quarterback in the first round was Kenny Pickett, who had average tools but elite intangibles. Sellers brings in physical tools, along with intangibles, and with a strong year in 2025, is a likely Top-10 pick.
The Steelers have the draft capital to make a move up the board; however, with their accumulation of compensatory picks and most of their 2027 draft capital, too.
