Pittsburgh Steelers Linked To Big Trade To Land Aaron Rodgers More Help Amid Contract Dispute

Like we saw with the New York Jets in the last two seasons, the Pittsburgh Steelers need to do all they can to be all-in for the upcoming season with Aaron Rodgers on the roster.

But hope for a different result.

The Steelers traded for major help at wide receiver this offseason when they added DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks. However, Pittsburgh shouldn’t be satisfied with the receiver corps after they traded away George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys.

Can the Pittsburgh Steelers trade for another NFC West WR?

Matt Holder of Bleacher Report came up with an interesting trade for the Steelers. He suggested that general manager Omar Khan go after San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who is in a dispute with his front office over wanting a new contract.

“Speaking of quarterbacks in their 40s, the Steelers should consider adding another receiver for Aaron Rodgers,” Holder wrote. :Robert Woods is projected to be their No. 2 out wide, and Jennings is basically a younger and (at this stage in their careers) better version of Woods.

“It was reported recently that the current 49er is looking for a new contract or trade out of San Francisco as he’s coming off his best NFL season with 77 catches, 975 yards and six touchdowns, all of which were career highs.”

Jennings, 28, was taken by the 49ers in the 2020 draft. He’s recorded 155 receptions for 1,938 yards and 13 touchdowns in his NFL career.

Jennings received more starts (10) and targets (113) last season while the 49ers navigated injuries to Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall. His best season before 2024 came in 2022, when he started in four games, recorded 35 receptions for 416 yards and one touchdown in his second season in the league.

Jennings is set to make $7.5 million in the upcoming season. He likely wants to be paid close to double that for 2025.

The Steelers could bet on Jennings to help for the long term when they find a new quarterback in the next offseason, if the 49ers aren’t willing to give another receiver a pay raise as they did with Aiyuk in 2024.
