Pittsburgh Steelers owner hints team could make massive free agent splash

The Pittsburgh Steelers need an infusion of talent for their team. Partially, that has started to come through the NFL Draft with the addition of players like Zach Frazier, but the team is also starting to pivot to free agency being a big part of their roster building.

Rooney, when asked about free agency, hinted that the Steelers could very well make a splash in free agency to help boost the team at one of their key area of needs.

"You know, I think we always have to look at opportunities, and if we can add somebody that’s going to make a difference for us, we’ve got to do that,” Rooney said. “We’ve never been adverse to doing it, but, you know, you have to have sort of the right guy show up at the right time and right place, and hopefully we’ll have some opportunities this coming spring.”

The Steelers did make a splash a season ago when they signed linebacker Patrick Queen. Queen ended up having an up-and-down year with the team, but general manager Omar Khan has not shied away from adding talented players and paying big money to do so.

This year, that could come at wide receiver, where Tee Higgins, Chris Godwin, and other star veteran players are expected to hit the free agency market.
