The Pittsburgh Steelers made changes on offense

The biggest change was at quarterback with the addition of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. They traded quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles and watched Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky sign with AFC rivals. The Steelers added depth on the offensive line.

One area that hasn’t been fixed for the better is wide receiver. The Steelers traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers. They released veteran Allen Robinson in March.

Allen Robinson was surprised the Steelers released him

Robinson went on to sign with the New York Giants in free agency. Per the Giants’ website, Robinson was surprised the Steelers released him:

“I know for them, they were doing a lot of changes over there, schematic changes, and different things like that,” Robinson said. “So, it was a little surprising. But at the end of the day, it’s a part of the business. I’ve been in this thing now going on 11 years.”

Robinson shouldn’t have been too surprised with the release. The Steelers needed to overhaul their offense after the unit’s feeble efforts in 2023. Robinson didn’t play well in Pittsburgh. The 2015 Pro Bowl receiver recorded 34 receptions for 280 yards last season.

Robinson is happy to be with the New York Giants

Robinson said he’s excited to join the Giants and work with a young and talented group of wide receivers. He’ll be able to share advice on the league with rookie receiver Malik Nabers, who the Giants selected with the No. 6 pick in April.

He’ll also be trying to chase a ring before retiring. Robinson said he appreciates the Giants’ successful culture:

“Whenever you can join a culture,” Robinson said, “not to mention the Giants organization as far as being a successful place in general – whenever you can step into a culture like that as a football player, that’s awesome.”
