The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed long snapper Tucker Addington, the team announced earlier this week. Addington joins the Steelers as the backup long snapper to Christian Kuntz, who is unlikely to be unseated from his job.
Addington is not a rookie and has been in the NFL for some time. An undrafted free agent in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Sam Houston State, Addington jumped from team to team, and has yet to find a stable situation.
He has played in six NFL games and marauded on practice squads over the seasons. Addington started with the Houston Gamblers of the USFL in 2022, earning himself spots with the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys.
Over the years, Addington has played for the Patriots, Cowboys. Washington Commanders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and Houston Texans. Addington started the spring with the Texans but was cut on June 20, and the Steelers signed him five days later.
The Steelers will shuffle the deck on their roster before they head into training camp, which is scheduled to start on July 23. The team now has two kickers, punters, and long snappers, with a competition expected between the two punters. However, Kuntz and Chris Boswell seem likely players to make the final roster and be safe.
